More choice equals more freedom. That's what we tell ourselves.. But enjoying the benefits of a plethora of options involves knowing your own mind to an extent. If you don't know what you want, more choice can mean more confusion. This is the issue that's primarily being addressed with the Seven of Cups. The card is asking us to refine our search, so to speak, or we'll end up being overwhelmed with plans and pathways and our sense of self will be struggling for air as we try to grasp everything in front of us without any clear direction.The best part of the message for me is the reminder that we can't be all things to all people at all times. It's ok to decide what makes you happy, what makes you tick, what makes you YOU, and go with it. How much of your anxiety over decision-making and planning the future is tied in with the expectations you feel from others? How much time do you spend thinking about what others want for you and how much is spent thinking about what you really want for yourself? Perhaps you were raised to define success in certain terms and now that you're a grown up you feel that it actually lies down a totally different road. Allowing learned values to pull us in directions we don't feel comfortable with is something we can and should unlearn.
When the Seven appears in spread about career or future plans, it could signify the need to decide which course of action will really give you inner contentment. Don't be temporarily blinded by the nice fat salary if you know in your heart that you'd pick job satisfaction over money for a better shot at happiness. Don't put off paying for your education in order to get married when you know deep down that studying means much more to you at this point in your life. Lay all of your options out on the table and scratch beneath the surface for your deeper feelings. Maybe you haven't been planning for the future at all or have difficulty seeing where you'll be in five years so you live more day-to-day. Everyone's different, but the Seven does hold a valuable lesson for some about the importance of being bold and determined and striving for something, as long as it's what you really want.
